Doddington Hall Farm Shop

As a former artisan food producer I can't help visiting any farm shop I find... Doddington Hall Farm Shop was a delight! None of the locally-labelled but mass-produced jars seen in most farm shops. A local butcher had their own outlet with beef hung for 21 days and looking fabulous, with their own pies, meals and otherfresh meats. The shop has a husband and wife team that prepare home-brand items - we ran into the baker as he described with an irresistable passion how he had just baked the Foccaccia - which was sensational. We then tried his wife's aptly named Outrageous Brownie, and fell totally for her Houmous... - surely the best this side of the Parthenon. There were local organic vegetables, local preserves and conserves and of the less local produce it was all at the more unusual end of the market. There was an exciting drinks department with a range of British wines as well as curious juices... Well laid out, with clear markings for produce from the home estate and the immediate vicinity I could have spent hours, and indeed a fortune there. No surprise that the staff matched the quality of theproduce!
