If you find yourself in the Pawling area (100km north of Manhattan, nice small village, adjacent to Appalachian Trail and much other fine hiking etc.), check out the Towne Crier. It is an excellent place to see very good music, and has great if pricey food as well. I've seen many fine shows there over the years, people like the Subdudes, Greg Brown, etc.

I adore the bike path network in MK. Most towns/cities in the USA don't have anything like this (a few college towns and some scattered others are exceptions). It's wonderful to be able to hop on the paths almost anywhere and get from place to place, or just explore.

I am disappointed in this unit. I bought it to serve as a backup device for my iMac, but it only works intermittently. When it works it's fine, but it often is not seen by the iMac (for unknown reasons, Maxtor tech support was not helpful) and seems to require physical uncabling and recabling to be seen again (which again only works sometimes).

For the price an excellent little camera. Very nice image quality, takes good videos, nice form factor. It's a point-and-shoot but quite advanced for all that, and I've wowed myself and some discerning others with the colors (colours) and quality of some of the photos.

A serviceable Ethiopian place on Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring's main drag. Very close to other downtown attractions. Worth a visit if you are craving Ethiopian cuisine but not the greatest example of that in the Washington DC area (head into the District for higher quality, my favorite is Zed's in Georgetown). As with all Ethiopian places I've gone to, it is vegetarian-friendly. Appears to have live music on weekends.

A wonderful restaurant and bakery in Pawling, New York. Excellent cuisine and wine list (has received Wine Spectator awards) but quite informal. People come from far away to dine here in the small village of Pawling by the railroad tracks. The bakery gets lines (queues) out the door on weekend mornings. Pricy for dinner (cheap for you Brits with your mighty pound!), but brunch on the weekends and lunch are quite reasonable.
