I HAD been going to Boston Tea Party (at the top of Park Street) for a good four years. It used to be a lovely bohemian place where you could sit and chill for an hour or two, buying coffees and food; sadly, the place is no longer what it used to be. The place is often very messy (even at quiet times), they seem to pack more and more tables and chairs in to the upstairs area making it almost impossible to move when the upstairs area is more than half full. They have a high turnover of staff and I (and others) have found that each new bunch of staff seems more and more unpleasant and rude than the last. The customer service standards have declined terribly, I no longer go there, nor do several of my friends.
At the time of writing this (February 2008) I am appauled at the lack of customer service and common sense displayed by even the floor managers! I have seen brash young employees, dredged from the bottom of the employment-stock barrel, being rude to customers, I've heard them swearing their heads off near children, and even taking FULL cups of coffee or plates of food from tables and putting them in the waste when it's obvious that someone is using them (i.e. coats and possesions left at the table as they've nipped to the loo).
Boston Tea Party _may_ be able to improve, provided the staff are given heavy customer service training (or preferably replaced with more mature staff with an ounce of common sense!) and they maybe think about the internal layout of the place. Otherwise - based on discussions with people who feel similar to me - I think they're going to lose a fair amount of business.
