The new James Bond movie is very nice. It is a pretty radical departure from the previous ones - and quite good at that.
Didn't go for the new tone. It wouldn't be fun to have this Bond's life, for one thing. There were frequently secrets from the audience (Bond knows M's name but won't tell us), and what few gadgets there were didn't even get used the way the movie told us they would. That's the whole point of having gadgets in a movie- we learn what they do and then we (via the characters) get to use our knowledge.
Music, action, stars, and locations were good, at least.
When I first heard that Pierce Brosnan had been dropped for the latest Bond film I was quite indignant. Now having seen Casino Royale I feel a little bit sad for him, for being thoroughly upstaged by Daniel Craig.
It's a really good film with all the classic Bond ingredients, many of which it takes to a new level. The stunts in the opening scenes are amazing, there are enough (but not too many) Bond one-liners, the badies are suitably unpleasant, and there are some good tongue-in-cheek Bond references to watch out for.
Despite being contemporary the film felt surprisingly timeless, which helped overcome the issue of the story being set early in Bond's career. For me the stand out aspect was the relationship between Bond and Vesper. I expect to be entertained by Bond films but not moved. Casino Royale managed both.
Best James Bond Film Yet.
A clever and exciting rennaisance of a tired and cheesy format.
I agree with all of Tom's Comments.
Nice movie. It gives you exactly what you would expect of a James Bond film. Daniel Craig tends to look like a little stupid, but he's handsome tough. Annoying are the millions of Sony Vaios and Fords.
The whole movie is to dark to be a bond movie.
Missing the bond signatures.
If it were other spy type movie. Yes it would of been good but not for bond.
I have been a bond fan for 30+ years.
Through out the movie I felt I was watching some other movie.
You probably know that you should expect a new twist on the old theme - but will you like it?
I did and much more than I thought I would. True, it's darker and grittier, perhaps moving a little closer to realism (still way off, of course) but I think that's an improvement.
When you buy the latest album by your favourite artist, are you gutted that it doesn't sound just like the old one? I reckon it just takes a while to adjust, to recognise more of the familiar and become comfortable with progress.
You can get the DVD cheap at Asda. For launch week it's £7. See Asda link below for more info.
Have only seen this on DVD, but I still think its one of the best Bond movies made to date. They seem to have started from the ground up here - its more of a switch than to any of the earlier actors. And notice how, apart from Dame Judy Dench, hardly any of the other main roles are played by known actors. Even the theme music represents a re-think. Q doesn't appear at all.
