This is a retail store at 5 W 42nd St
New York, NY 10036 that sells computers and digital photography equipment. They are a bunch of crooks, and I got scammed. I had a pretty good idea of what the housings I wanted costed, but not the lenses.

The shop looked respectable enough, seemed ideally situated just off 5th Avenue. Long story short (I was in the shop 45 minutes), they managed to convince me the Sigma DC 55-200mm F4-5.6 was a value of $1200, when the MSRP is $200.

They said they had a special offer that week, so I would get the housing and two filters for free. They first tried to push a Nikon D40, but I eventually managed to get a Canon 450D instead.

And all of a sudden, when I gave them my card, tax was added on the top of it, they never said anything about that, so the total price as more than $1300.

Well, the parts were actually exactly what I wanted, but I'm bitter knowing that I could have gotten it for half the price other places in New York.

I went back the next day, and the guy said pretty much straight out that "this is the US, not Europe, and I don't stand a chance". He became very aggressive, and I found it best to leave the store. There are lots of similar experiences around the web, and I'm kinda stunned they are allowed to operate like that for extended periods of time...

So, I guess, if shopping in NYC, be very sure about the MSRP of anything before you swipe your card.

Please don't buy any products at this shop otherwise you'll end like us. We came for a city trip and bought a camera and two iphones at this shop. We got all the fancy explanations about bargains, supercool accessoires (which are highly priced on the invoice) but when we checked the purchases we maded the day after we had to conclude they ripped us of for more than 1000 $. So please, please, do not buy at this shop. The main thing we learned from this is never to buy expensive goods when experiencing jetlag (and not thinking straight). We think they prey on this kind of customers.
