birmingham rail railway-station train train-station transport travel

by tom on 10 Mar 2008Dark, dingy, congested and cold. Terrible layout, far too many grumpy barrier staff, regular delays, constant last-minute platform changes, poor passenger information, uninformative displays. What more do I need to say? A sad indictment of Britain's commitment to public transport. Badly in need of the planned overhaul. The only saving graces are Marks and Spencers Simply Food on the concourse, plenty of cash machines, and a few tacky but useful shops in the Pallasades upstairs.

by Chaz6 on 11 Mar 2008New Street Station is one of the busiest railway stations in the UK, and is one of three large stations in Birmingham -- the others being Moor Street and Snow Hill. It connects the Midlands to destinations throughout England and Wales. It does not currently serve the Eurostar network. I think that Snow Hill Station is in a slightly worse state than New Street Station, but neither are particularly appealing.

by tom on 20 Aug 2008Nope, still no change. Not even the station staff know which platform the trains will be coming in on. Today I witnessed them telling a train crew to follow them to certain platform because they had the information first and then have to go to another platform because the information was wrong. Tragic.
