What a terrible pub. The new owner had a domestic with his wife and so told everyone in the pub to leave. He then turned the lights out and took the till away leaving a busy pub sat there in the dark 1/2 way through their drinks. He then sent his mum out to tell everyone to go!! Really unprofessional and very very rude. I and my family will NEVER return to this pub again. If you cant keep your private and business life seperate the pub industry is not for you!

I was in this pub last night and also witnessed the incident reported by Jones. Yes I agree, really bad management. I too wont be going back there. I was in there with my husband when the landlord told everyone to leave and turned off the lights. how embarrasing and what an idiot to treat customers that way. I am local but wont be going there again. Another change of owners need to get underway!

Absolutely terrible behaviour from a newly appointed landlord. Everone has arguments but keep it out of the bar mate!
Nope I wont be going back, the bloke is a muppet. I sat in the dark and finished off my pint, no way was I leaving at 8pm without it when I had just paid for it, who does this bloke think he is. Idiot.

So glad to see these reviews. I am so angry and need to vent my frustration. I have rand a few breweries about the owner of this pub to let them know what a twat they are supplying beer to! He had to send out his mum to tell everyone to leave what a complete loser. If I was him I wouldnt be showing my face behind the bar again, i would have to leave the area. How dare he act like that just because he was having a row I couldnt believe it. I was one of the people laughing as I thought he was messing around but when he left the bar with the till shut the door and turned off the lights i was gobsmacked. Ive never seen a landlord act like that and then to send out his mum to get everone out as well. Well dont worry we all went and we wont be back. i hope your business goes right down the pan you pathetic loser. I am so glad for sites like this to be able to write proper reviews. To everyone out there reading this - DONT GO, it wasnt a great pub for food or atmosphere anyway and with that attitude there are far far better pubs in the area to go to and not be thrown out early evening by someones mum!!!
The owner of this pub needs anger managment and social skills - oh and a backbone!!

Sad to see these comments, I have been to the Shoulder of Mutton a number of times since new owners took over, found the staff very friendly, much better atmosphere than previously had experienced, the previous reviews will not prevent me from returning!

Very sad to these hurtful comments about one night in the course of many. I live locally and have been very encouraged by how vastly the Shoulder of Mutton has improved in the past few months. The decor has been transformed from a dirty, stuffy out of date pub to a fresh and welcoming place where I have spent many an enjoyable night recently. I've found the new owners very friendly and professional and wish them well in their new venture.

I too have been to the Shoulder of Mutton, several times in the past couple of months, one bad night is not enough to put me off from going back. Granted poor management.. but the place has improved ten fold since the new landlord took over.. good on you MATE!!

I have visited this pub more since it was taken over by new management.It is much cleaner now then previously and the food is good but admitedly painfully slow to arrive. It is a shame what happened on 04/08/08. I was surprised to read this as I was looking for accomodation for friends in a few weeks time, as Shoulder used to do this. I wonder now whether I should recommend it now.Anyway will get information tonight when we have a drink there!

Looking at the above reviews, I wasnt sure whether to try this pub at all, but thought would give it a go, food is ok but service is very poor. The landlord - was really stressed out and snappy especially with his wife who was als very glum and grumpy, yes could well imagine him having the tantrum that so many people reported before. Shame as the pub itself is very nice, but I do think the owner and his grumpy wife should think seriousely about a career change and let a more welcoming and happy family take over instead. They are probrably relying on passing trade instead of regular customers which is why they havent bothered to change attitude. Conclusion - a visit here is not worth the bother.
