Taiwan is also known as Formosa, which was named when the Portuguese sailors in the 15th century sailed near the island and said "Ilha Formosa", meaning "Beautiful Island". Today Taiwan is an independent nation with a population of 23 million. The official languages are Mandarin Chinese, Holo (Taiwanese, or Southern Fukienese), Hakka, and 13 other aboriginal languages. English is generally understood among the population, and can be used in tourist locations. Japanese is another widely understood foreign language.

Capital city of Taiwan is Taipei, which has a population of 2.8 million people. The second largest city, Kaohsiung, is located at the south of the west coast of the island.

Taiwan nowadays is a major manufacturer for computers, electronics, and informatics products. Major internationally well-known brands include Acer, Asus, BenQ, AUO, TSMC, Quanta, ChiMei, D-Link..etc. Taiwan is also the major OEM and ODM manufacturer for many international electronic brands, such as Dell, Sony, Canon, HP...etc.

Taiwan has the tallest building in the world, Taipei 101, which is 101 stories and >1000m tall. The beautiful nation also has the latest high speed rail in the world, Taiwan High Speed Rail, which is based on the Japanese Shingansen and travels at 300km/hr. The nation also has the 2nd longest tunnel in the world, the Shue-Shan Tunnel, which is 13km in length. The Ken-Ting National Park has climate of tropical region and contains many distinct wildlifes and plant species. The Yu-Shan (Jade Mountain) National Park has the tallest mountain in East Asian, at 3952m above sea level. Night Markets are a special culture in Taiwan, with hundreds of different types of food, desserts, drink, as well as booths that sell all sorts of clothes, decorative stuff, and virtually anything you can think of.

Taiwanese people are very friendly for foreigners. It is one of the most beautiful places for tourist. Two thumbs up!!
